Religious Education

Religious Education at Barnes…

Our Religious Education curriculum helps children develop an understanding of different beliefs, values and ways of life. Learning focuses on Christianity, Judaism and Islam, alongside opportunities to explore non-religious worldviews, in line with the Sunderland Agreed RE Syllabus.

Learning builds on the strong foundations established in the Early Years, where children begin exploring special people, stories and celebrations. In Key Stage One, knowledge is carefully sequenced so that pupils develop understanding of beliefs, religious stories, practices and how faith can influence people’s lives.

Vocabulary and discussion are prioritised so that children can talk respectfully about beliefs, ask thoughtful questions and share ideas with confidence.

Our RE curriculum is designed to be inclusive so that all pupils feel safe and respected when exploring different beliefs and viewpoints.

Through Religious Education at Barnes, children develop respect, curiosity and understanding of different communities and traditions, providing strong foundations for continued learning in Key Stage 2.
