Science at Barnes…

Our science curriculum is designed to nurture curiosity and develop children’s understanding of the world around them. Rooted in our local context, children begin by exploring familiar environments before extending their thinking to wider scientific ideas.

Our curriculum is knowledge-led and carefully sequenced from EYFS through Key Stage 1, ensuring that children build secure scientific understanding over time. We place a strong emphasis on vocabulary and oracy, enabling children to think, speak and reason as scientists.

Through practical, first-hand experiences and regular opportunities for enquiry, children learn to ask questions, observe closely, and use evidence to explain their thinking. By the end of Key Stage 1, children leave Barnes with the knowledge, language and enquiry skills needed to succeed in the next stage of their education.
