ART

Art at Barnes…

Our art curriculum develops children’s creativity, curiosity and ability to communicate ideas visually. Learning builds on the strong creative foundations established in the Early Years, where children explore materials, colour and mark-making through practical experiences.

In Key Stage One, knowledge and skills are carefully sequenced so that pupils progressively develop their understanding of drawing, painting, sculpture and other artistic techniques. Children learn how artists use materials, colour, pattern, texture and form to represent ideas, places and experiences.

Vocabulary and discussion are prioritised so that pupils can describe their work, talk about artists and explain the choices they make when creating art.

Our art curriculum is designed to be inclusive, providing practical and visual learning experiences that allow all pupils to explore, experiment and express ideas confidently.

Through art at Barnes, children develop creative confidence, knowledge of artistic techniques and an appreciation of the visual world, preparing them for further artistic learning in Key Stage 2.
